School nurses, social workers, teachers, school counselors, and other school and college personnel.

Goal:

To educate school and college personnel on the effects of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer treatment in order to improve the students' learning experience during and after cancer treatment.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify cancers that affect children, adolescents, and young adults (AYAs).
  • Identify side effects and long-term and late effects of childhood/AYA cancer treatment.
  • Describe challenges for survivors throughout their education.
  • Explain laws that protect childhood/AYA cancer survivors' rights.
  • Develop strategies to help meet the students' short- and long-term education needs.
  • Access resources that support schools and families, including those from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
